General Scope of Responsibility: To provide project support to the RCP Engineering Department. Utilizes a combination of electrical, mechanical, and electronic skills used to identify, analyze, and solve systems-based problems under the direction of the Engineering Manager.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Supports engineers by making modifications to machines. troubleshooting and testing.
  • Develops and manages assigned projects from implementation to completion in order to reach set objectives and goals.
  • Assists in the development and updates to Improvement Projects (A3’s) and activities within the Problem Control Module (Plex)
  • Identify and troubleshoot recurring manufacturing and equipment issues.
  • Evaluate and take action as directed on plant processes and equipment to maintain a quality product and ensure up time and scrap reduction.
  • Assist with equipment issues and engineering projects.

Work Environment

This position operates within an industrial manufacturing plant. Although some work is done in an office setting, this is a typical industrial environment utilizing moderately heavy equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Workers may be exposed to hazards typically found within a manufacturing environment. We take great pride in our safe environment and this plant operates with strict safety rules. All staff must maintain a high degree of care necessary to avoid serious injury.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position will primarily work during normal office hours Monday – Friday, but will occasionally need to work nights and weekends to accomplish assignments. Overtime may be required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., however, some weekends or evening hours may be required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

General Scope of Responsibility: Lead and maintain an effective plant quality program reflective of the Corporate Quality Philosophy, which will achieve the plant’s quality objectives of 100% conforming product, delivered on time to our customers, at a profitable cost to the Company. 

DUTIES AND ELEMENTS:

Supervises the Quality Department personnel:

  • Identifies and secures approval for the staffing and budgetary needs of the quality department.
  • Provides for skill development, professional development, and cross-training of department personnel.
  • Evaluates and rates performance of direct reports, assure their assigned duties are performed.
  • Establishes environment conducive to high performance, assist other plant personnel to understand and execute their specifically assigned duties.
  • Assures that communications to all shifts is consistent and complete.

Manages the systems and procedures needed to effectively perform the Quality Department functions:

  • Develops, maintains, improves, and assures the effective execution of documented procedures needed to effectively manage Quality Department activities; perform or delegate duties specifically assigned to the Plant Quality Manager.
  • Oversee plant internal audits acting as the plant administrator for this function, yearly audit schedules, facilitate auditor training, review auditor competency. Represent the plant during 2nd and 3rd party quality system audits.
  • Assist in development of strategies to assure continuous quality/productivity/cost improvement in systems, procedures, processes and products; assist in institutionalizing the corporate Quality Philosophy throughout the plant.
  • Assist in developing the plant’s annual Quality/Productivity Improvement plan; implementation and execution of Plex Modules, regularly report on progress against plan.
  • Serve as IATF 16949 Management Representative. Ensure continual improvement in the Management System and compliance with IATF 16949 and customer specific requirements.
  • Actively participates in the Order Execution process, assures APQP is properly executed and Control Plans are effective. Participates in the development of FMEAs and helps ensure launches are successful.
  • Assist purchasing to assess and select vendors; assist in communications with vendors on quality requirements, problems and corrective action.

Provides leadership role in resolving product quality problems:

  • Assures customers receive prompt, thorough, and complete responses to quality complaints, in accordance with applicable customer applications and internal procedures;  
  • Assures effective corrective actions are identified and implemented in a timely fashion for external, internal and supplier failures. Ensure corrective actions are shared across all manufacturing plants and incorporated into lessons learned database.
  • Coordinates administration of the defective material identification & disposition program; i.e., the DMR & MDA.
  • Monitors & takes corrective/improvement action on key quality measurables; i.e., parts per million (PPM)/Spoilage, repeat complaints
  • Report on the quality performance of the plant in a systematic and regular fashion so management and non-management personnel are aware of performance and can mutually assess our improvement needs.  Report to the Plant Manager and/or the Corporate Quality Director the needs of the plant’s quality effort.

Physical Requirements;

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and navigate tight spaces. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 10 – 15 pounds. Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighting up to 30 pounds with assistance.

General Scope of Responsibility:  Manages the engineering planning & preparation activities necessary to launch assigned new jobs and engineering changes at rate and 100% quality.  Also, has lead engineering responsibility for providing support to production needs such as resolving process problems and improving safety, quality, and productivity on assigned programs/processes.

DUTIES & ELEMENTS: 

  • Responsible for the programming and optimization of adhesive, water jet, pick and place robots as assigned.
  • Leads production work cell setups and also the set-up or running of plant service parts as required.
  • Performs tool modification or maintenance as required.
  • Assists with process development effort to develop optimal cell layout, work instructions, process flow layout, set-up procedures, while adhering to safety, quality, and productivity protocols.
  • Coordinates internal engineering trials for PPAP’s, PSA’s, Run at Rates, etc..
  • Assists with launches through development and engineering of new or changed products.
  • Accomplishes the above tasks through compliance with the plant’s Advanced Planning Quality Procedures (APQP).

Continuous Improvement:

  • Develops documentation as described in TS16949/QS-9000 manuals as plant responsibilities.
  • Identifies and resolves process improvements by exceeding budgeted cycle times, reducing budgeted spoilage, improving process capability, increasing throughput, and improved set-ups.
  • Develops and employs troubleshooting guidelines and best practices.
  • Provides training for all new and existing process and manufacturing systems.
  • Assists production floor as process expert by utilizing troubleshooting, diagnosis, debugging, and other technical skills to keep production lines running at peak efficiency, including focus on robots and adhesive dispensing systems.
  • Performs cause analysis, and corrective action implementation on assigned customer complaints or internal failures.
  • Meets with customers and vendors when necessary.
  • Performs job safety analysis as required and implementation of assigned corrective actions.

Lean Engineering/Manufacturing:

  • Applies lean engineering tools with value stream mapping, SMED, Standardize work method, etc. to improve assigned process.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Work Experience, etc.):

  • Experience or training using computer systems and software (MSOffice, Windows Operating Systems).

HUMAN RELATIONS:

 The Process Engineering Technician ( PET) works closely with, and often serves as support to a number of different departments and personnel. As a result, and in order to achieve optimum effectiveness, the PET must maintain a positive, cooperative relationship with various departments/individuals and must be responsive to their needs.

The PET interacts with all levels of the organization, i.e., with operators through senior managers.  To be effective, the PET must be sensitive to, and cooperatively blend the needs and goals of the various levels of the organization with the common denominator of ‘achieving organizational objectives’, i.e., effective launches, safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and positive employee/ employer relations.

Finally, in the role of a problem solver, the PET must remain objective and be able to make recommendations based on facts, regardless of whether those recommendations are popular.

The PET must take ownership of the process(es) to which they are assigned and be accountable for all related machines.

Physical requirements:

Occasionally ascends/descends ladders or stairs on manufacturing equipment to assist with trial runs. Must be able to lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds across plant floor when assisting in tool launch process. Must be able to walk through the manufacturing plant and stand for long periods of time. Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

General Scope of Responsibility: Supervise and direct hourly employees in the day -to-day operation of the plant.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Implement and maintain the safety, quality, production standards, and policies of the Company. Conduct training, problem solving, and team meetings as necessary.  Strive for continuous improvement.

SAFETY:

  • Instruct and see that safe work practices are being observed and used. Be aware of any unsafe work practices or conditions and take corrective action.
  • Enforce all plant rules and regulations.
  • Report and document all safety concerns in Health and Safety Incident Log
  • Conduct investigations of accidents and injuries. Fill out and submit Supervisor’s Report of Injury.

QUALITY:

  • Ensure that all products being manufactured meet or exceed customer requirements. When products do not meet customer specifications, the Supervisor is to see that corrective action is implemented.
  • DMR hold all products that do not meet specifications. Alert Quality Department of quality problems.
  • Verify operator checksheets to ensure quality checks are being performed and sign off as required.
  • Maintain a leadership role in directing continuous improvement related to quality and productivity.

PRODUCTIVITY

  • Implement and maintain production standards.
  • Reduce scrap rates.
  • Ensure specification work orders are written and correct before they are placed on the production floor.
  • Coordinate changes with Department schedulers and resolve any schedule or personnel conflicts
  • Ensure equipment is operational. When breakdowns or maintenance repairs are needed, notify Maintenance Department and fill out maintenance Work Request. See that repairs are completed timely.
  • Ensure that operators have the needed supplies and equipment to do their assigned jobs safely and efficiently.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in productivity and quality in all areas of the operation.
  • Document operations in Supervisors Log daily.
  • Complete Assigned layered process audits and documentation.

INVENTORY

  • Conduct inventories of assigned items.
  • Monitor any supplies that the plant uses to ensure the plant does not run out.

MEETINGS:

  • Conduct shift change communication meeting with on-coming Supervisor, provide run-down of “current state of the operation”
  • Communicate with shift Leaders and participate in daily Leader hand-off meeting.
  • Attend all assigned meetings. Keep oneself updated on items going on within the plant including review of meeting minutes when on the off shift.

Human Relations:

The Production Supervisor is the first line of management responsible for training, motivating, and developing production employees and, as such, must provide clear communications between operators and upper managerial personnel.  The Production Supervisor provides technical and personnel related leadership, promotes safety, quality, and efficiency in plant operations, and is sensitive to employee relations issues.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 35 – 40 pounds.

Environmental conditions include noisy environments with occasional varying temperatures.

General Scope of Responsibility: Complete “APQP” and submit “PPAP’s” in a timely manner according to customer requirements.  To assist the Quality Manager in the administrative areas of all the quality functions.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & ELEMENTS:

 Support program launch and lead the APQP process

  • Complete the APQP/PPAP checklist.
  • Manage APQP activities and maintain the part files and records.
  • Submit PPAP to customers.
  • Complete online PPAP submissions using GM GQTS, Ford VPP and Chrysler CQMS.
  • Request PPAP from suppliers.
  • Spearhead the gate review process and development of inspection tools for the floor.

Dimensional Layouts

  • Perform dimensional layouts for PPAP submissions on new product, and changes to existing product per AIAG or customer formats.
  • Perform dimensional layouts for customers requiring annual layouts.

Gage Calibration System

  • Calibrate and maintain all internal check fixtures and checking mylars.
  • Assist in the Design and completion of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies.
  • Lead and/or participate in design and construction of new gages and changes to existing gages.
  • Train operational personnel on use of check fixtures, mylars and other operator instructions.
  • Create operator instructions for check fixtures and checking mylars.

Corrective action efforts for customer quality complaints and supplier issues

  • Access Ford, GM, Chrysler and other customer websites daily to review and communicate quality and delivery issues.
  • Develop containment instructions and assist in managing containment activities to keep labor variance to a minimum.
  • Maintain PCR log and records, including follow up to ensure Suppliers are responding in a timely manner.

Internal Auditing

  • Assist in performing monthly quality audits and TS16949 audits (internal).
  • Develop and have a basic understanding of TS16949, especially APQP requirements.

Receiving Inspection

  • Review supplier POS for accuracy
  • Maintain Plex by adding check sheets for new parts, also revise information on current parts as required.
  • Review Certificates of Analysis (COA) of all incoming shipments of purchased parts and enter the data of accepted shipments on a daily basis. Approved COA’s are routed to the shipping office.
  • Work closely with the receiving department so that the approvals are properly maintained.
  • When supplier issues arise contact is made and corrective action is to be initiated to correct the problem.

Support the Manufacturing Floor

  • Monitor Run @ Rate activities on the floor for PPAP.
  • Work with Supervisors and Operators when there is new operators running at the cell or when new products are launching.
  • Complete daily walks to review parts and inspection tools.
  • Communicate with the floor on important daily issues.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Work Experience, etc.):

Minimum Qualifications/Skills Requirements [Must have to be considered for the position]:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience with the quality systems in a manufacturing plant.
  • Experience or training using computers for word processing, data entry, or spreadsheet, or statistical applications. 

Desired [Will provide job holder with added skill(s) to perform duties]: 

  • Two or more years of college in related field.
  • Possess a working knowledge of statistical methods, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Quality Planning Process (control plans, FMEA’s, flowcharts, etc.), and of the Corporate and Plant level TS procedures.
  • Ability to act as a back-up Production Supervisor as necessary.

HUMAN RELATIONS:

The Plant Quality Planner must interface daily with persons in a variety of positions, including employees, customers, and vendors.  In this role, the Quality Planner must possess good communication skills and have the ability to deal with people in a positive manner.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
